Corporate History
Marel has a history that goes back to 1977 when two engineers at the University of Iceland began to examine the possibility of developing and manufacturing scales for the effective control of production in fish processing plants.

The company was founded in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1983, and has since risen to become one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of high-tech processing equipment for the food processing industry. The company has always maintained its vision of leadership in the design and manufacture of weighing and grading equipment, computer vision systems, intelligent portioning machines and total-solution processing systems.
